Recently we had experience in giving the diagnosis of Downs Syndrome in less than ideal circumstances, in particular we had a delay in a confirmed diagnosis. On a recent ward round I asked Mike for literature on experience in giving bad news particularly in DS.  He supplied a review from Pediatrics 2009 (PDF at pediatrics-2009) on delivering news of Down Syndrome postnatally and a more general review from Clinical Pediatrics (PDF at Clin-ped-2010)  in 2010.   I hope you find them helpful.

This paper presents the results of a survey of paediatric cardiologists, involving taped interviews.  It discusses how they handle the situations and what support and training they felt they and more junior colleagues needed.  Do you agree with their conclusions?
